Fall
For many people, Spring is the season of newness and renewal. However, for me, that season has always been Fall. The crisp, cool air of Fall awakens something deep within me that knows whatever has happened is no more and whatever lies ahead holds all possibilities. This is the season that we return to school, create new routines, and even develop new habits.
I picked up a new spiritual discipline called Scripture Writing. Everyday I write a verse or two and spend time meditating and praying on those words. For a few years, spiritual disciplines have seemed impossible to implement into my life. I am a mom, wife, pastor, farmer, student, and writer. There has never seemed enough time to sit and read chunks of scripture and pray for extended periods. Yet, this new spiritual discipline seems possible, and I have already faithfully completed a full month.
Fall is also a season for preparation and planning. Next month, the summer flowers will be fading away and the pumpkins will be ready to harvest. It will be time to replant the perennial flowers and build hoop houses to protect the delicate bulbs. The ground will need to be tilled and fed with nutrients as it rests and prepares for the next season of growing. Hay will need to be stored to feed the sheep during the winter months, and the sheepdogs will need a warm place to stay out of the cold.
A blessing for you:
May crisp air of Fall fill your lungs and remind you that you are alive. May the smell of pumpkin treats flood your nose and remind you that there is hope. May the colors of fallin leavings overtook your eyes and remind you that you are beautiful. May the softeness of sweaters and blankets cover your body and remind you of comfort. May the glow of fireplces and candles illuminate your home and remind you of peace. May this season of Fall bring newness and renewal into your life. May the God of wonder be ever present with you. Amen.
